What is the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP)?

By the Variask team · Updated

Definition

The Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) is an open standard created by OpenAI and Stripe that lets AI agents, starting with ChatGPT, complete purchases with merchants on a buyer's behalf.

Also called ACP

How ACP works

The merchant keeps its own checkout, payments and customer relationship. ChatGPT passes the order and a secure payment token to the merchant through the protocol, and the merchant confirms the order. It powers Instant Checkout in ChatGPT.

What it means for brands

  • If ChatGPT shopping matters to your category, check whether your platform or payment provider supports ACP.
