What is zero-click search?

By the Variask team · Updated

Definition

A zero-click search is a search where the person gets what they need on the results page or in the AI answer and does not click through to any website.

With Variask: Variask measures how often AI names you, even when no one clicks, and shows the AI traffic that does arrive.

Why zero-click is growing

Featured snippets, knowledge panels, AI Overviews and AI assistants answer more questions directly. People still discover brands in those answers, but fewer of them click, so traffic alone undercounts influence.

What it means for brands

  • Measure visibility in answers, not only clicks.
  • Make sure the answer itself says the right thing about you, because many people will read nothing else.
